These sessions have proved invaluable for complete beginners, as well as individuals that have been growing for a few years but aren’t really sure whether they’re doing the right thing.

Grow Your Own Through the Seasons at Kilgraney House
We have planned a series of six workshops for Kilgraney this year. Aimed at beginners and using organic principles, participants will be covering all aspects of growing vegetables.

Workshop 1 - Sun, 26th February
Early Spring - Introductory talk and walk around the garden with advice on planning and setting up a vegetable garden, crop rotation, soil requirements for different vegetables and soil conditioning.
Workshop 2 - Sun 25th March
Mid Spring - Spring tasks will include ground preparation; looking at seed, sets and tubers, seed selection and storage; conditions for successful germination, sowing (indoors and outdoors) and care of seedlings.
Workshop 3 - Sun, 22nd April
Late Spring - More spring tasks with advice on transplanting, organic fertilising and composting.
Workshop 4 - Sun 26th May
Early Summer - A look at summer tasks and growing of tomatoes, vegetables and fruits under cover.
Workshop 5 - Sunday, 25th June
Mid Summer - Weed, pests and disease control - how to recognise threats and how to treat them organically.
Workshop 6 - Sunday 22nd July
Late Summer - Harvesting - when, how, freezing, picking, preserving, etc. Finishing with Autumn tasks and preparations for the next growing season.
The cost of each is €25.00 or if you book all six at the same time, there will be a special offer of six for the price of five.

One Day Grow Your Own Vegetables - Saturday 24th March
This full day course includes advice on planning and setting up a vegetable garden, crop rotation, soil requirements for different vegetables and soil preparation/conditions methods and techniques. Learn how to grow and care for organic vegetables and fruits with theoretical information and hands-on practical sessions on ground preparation, sowing and propagation.
The course runs from 10.00 am till 4.00 pm, cost €75.00 which includes a light lunch with tea/coffee.
It can either be booked as a day course or as a hotel weekend package at the beautiful Kilgraney House (price on application).
